Teacher support and training

The Early Education Centre – TEEC Provides training and ongoing mentoring and support to ECD practitioners to improve the quality of ECD programmes. Assist ECD sites to comply with children’s act {No 38 of 2005} as amended to register as a partial care facility and access the per capita subsidy to sustain the site.

Skilled and Unskilled Educators or individuals wanting to work in the ECD sector.

Objective of the programme

  • Allows Educators to gain skills, knowledge and understanding of the importance of implementing a structured and stimulating daily programme for vulnerable young children.
  • It complies with the Children’s Act, 2005, NELDS, the NCS and NCF (where appropriate) and other guidelines.
  • It provides for students to learn and practice:
    • How to interpret learning behavior.
    • How to overcome blocks to learning.
    • How to empower learners with learning skills and intrinsic motivation.

Outcome

  • Plan and prepare for Early Childhood Development.
  • Facilitate and monitor the development of babies, toddlers and young children in a manner that is sensitive to culture and individual needs (including special needs).
  • Provide quality ECD services and support to babies, toddlers and young children.
  • Holistic development.
  • Learning material, e.g. posters, puzzles, matching cards, counting games, threading cards, stories and story cards and books are provided.
